Mass Stabbing at Traverse City Walmart Leaves 11 Injured; Suspect in Custody

 



A shocking stabbing attack at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan left eleven people injured on Saturday evening, according to local authorities. A 42-year-old Michigan man is in custody following the incident, which police described as random in nature.

The assault took place near the checkout area of the store. According to Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael D. Shea, the suspect used a folding knife to attack shoppers and employees without any apparent motive.

“This was a joint effort all the way through, and, as I mentioned, the citizens, too.”

The 11 victims were transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. The healthcare provider confirmed in a Facebook post that it is working closely with local authorities and emergency services to deliver the highest standard of care. As of Saturday night, five victims were in serious condition, while six remained in critical condition.

The Michigan State Police announced that the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area as law enforcement continues to examine the scene.


The FBI also responded to assist in the investigation. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that federal agents are working in coordination with local authorities.


In an official statement, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her concern and support:


"I’m in touch with law enforcement about the horrible news out of Traverse City. Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence. I am grateful to the first responders for their swift response to apprehend the suspect."
